Quick Tips & Tricks
Follow these easy steps to measure your filter size:
Step 1 – Measure the Length and Width (L x W) of your current air filter. If your filter is not square, the smallest measurement goes first.
Step 2 – Measure the thickness (Depth) of your filter from front to back.
Step 3 – Put your measurements together in this order: L x W x D.
That’s it! You are now ready to choose the correct filter for your Furnace or AC unit.
Follow these easy steps for home air filter replacement:
Step 1: Turn off your HVAC unit before changing the filter. If you’re not sure how to turn it off, consult your owner’s manual, or turn off the breaker.
Step 2: Remove the dirty filter. Most air filters are typically located at the point where the return duct enters the air handler. Look for a 1” wide hinged or removable cover. The air filter will be inside and should easily pull out of the slot.
Step 3: Insert the new filter. There are arrows on the new filter to indicate which side should be facing the incoming air. The arrows should be pointing towards the blower and the filter should slide into place easily.
Changing your unit’s air filter is a simple, inexpensive way to bring great benefit to your home and the longevity of your HVAC unit. However, it is a task that many people overlook. Do you recall the last time you changed your air filter? For many of us, the answer is several months ago at best.
Using an air filter replacement subscription service means one less task on your to-do list, one less thing you have to remember. Select Air Filter allows you to protect your family, save money, and enhance your HVAC system, without ever having to think about it.
Your system’s air filter has a heavy workload. It filters out bits of pollen, dust, and dander that would otherwise circulate and cause lower indoor air quality. It protects against small objects, such as bits of loose insulation, from being pulled into your system where they could cause damage or present a fire hazard. It also increases the efficiency of your unit, and a whole lot more.
When your air filter is dirty, your system has to work even harder, creating strain on your unit, decreasing its efficiency, and possibly causing significant, expensive problems. Changing your air filter monthly promotes better air flow, lower monthly energy bills, and is a simple, inexpensive way to ensure that you and your family stay healthy, comfortable, and safe all year long.
With all this talk of regular air filter replacement you may be wondering: “What do I do with my old filter?” Careful disposal of your old filter will prevent all of the collected dirt and debris from becoming airborne once again.
To properly dispose of a used air filter:
Step 1 – Have a plastic bag on hand and turn off the unit before you begin.
Step 2 – Carefully remove the used air filter from the HVAC unit. For help on where your air filter is located, click here.
Step 3 – Carefully lace the old filter into the bag without shaking it. This will prevent it from releasing dust and particles into the air.
Step 4 – Tie or tape the bag shut.
Step 5 – Place the bagged air filter into an outside trash can or dumpster.
Now that you have disposed of your old filter, you’re ready to install your new one.
